XM Satellite Radio is one of two companies now providing subscription-based programming to listeners in the United States. For a long time, radio listeners have wanted an alternative to the traditional commercial radio stations which are limited in format choices and full of commercials. Enter XM Satellite Radio which offers many more listening choices. Among the choices available on XM Satellite Radio are more than 120 digital radio channels including 68 channels of commercial free music from opera to country, bluegrass to blues, hip hop to underground rock, plus news, sports, talk and comedy. With talk and news channels, you’re getting parts of the program that your particular satellite radio provider chooses to broadcast. The shows are not edited, but while you might have been able to pick up three hours of a favorite program on a commercial station on your AM dial, you may only get one hour of the show on XM Satellite Radio. To receive XM Satellite Radio in your car, at home, or anywhere, you’ll need a special receiver. To expand your system in your home or take it to the office, they offer the Delphi SkyFi audio system which is a portable speaker/antenna unit with a docking cradle for the SkyFi receiver. For the car, they offer the Roady, a compact, customizable portable satellite radio receiver that comes with interchangeable faceplates and the smallest satellite radio antenna on the market. In May of 2004 they introduced the Delphi Roady 2 which has a built-in wireless FM adapter for easy connection to any car or home radio. Prices for receivers and vehicle kits range considerably, depending on the features you want. Related Articles The new Audiovox XR9 Plug-and-Play
