DSL Service Providers Verizon and Earthlink
DSL service providers
such as Verizon and Earthlink are a great low-cost alternative if you want to
upgrade to
high speed internet access
but your area is not serviced by cable providers. DSL service is much faster
than a regular phone dial-up connection. Using the same wires used by your
telephone, access providers such as Verizon and Earthlink can have you up and
running with a high speed connection that lets you enjoy surfing the web again.
If your internet access buying decision rests on price, performance and
features, DSL service from a company such as Verizon is a top choice. The 1.5
Mbps downstream and 128kbps upstream speed costs only $34.95 per month. Compare
that with other high speed internet providers. You need at least a Windows 95
operating system and a USB or 10Base-T Ethernet interface. In addition, you get
10MB of web space and up to 15 email addresses. If you cancel your account you
either return the modem or buy it for $99.
Other top DSL access choices besides Verizon include DSL
service from the DISH Network in conjunction with Earthlink. This high speed
connection can be set up together with your free satellite TV system. EarthLink
is a great service provider offering dedicated internet access at DSL speeds of
1.5Mbps/128kbps for residential service. You will need access to a Windows 95 or
higher operating system, 16MB of RAM and 166 MHz processor speed, USB port or
Ethernet card. Digital Subscriber Lines are now a popular alternative to leased
lines and less costly. Once your DSL internet modem is installed and you enjoy
the speedy loading of web pages, you probably won't go back to dial-up ever
again.
