Directtv HU Card Technology Makes Program Selection Safe, Easy

With all of the channels available on satellite TV, parents may be concerned about the content of the shows their children are seeing. The Directtv Hu card gives parents a measure of comfort. TV channel selection was easy a few years ago. Viewers had only a few channels from which to choose. The major networks provided most of the programming. This programming content was controlled with strict censorship standards. Today, the Directtv Hu card offers parents some control over program selection.

When a person signs up for satellite TV, he or she also sign up for a programming package. The consumer is able to select the programming package that best suits the needs of the household. This programming package information is recorded in the Directtv Hu card. The card is a form of smart card. It is actually a very thin plastic box storing a microprocessor or chip. The card inserts into the satellite reciever, telling the receiver which programs to descramble from the satellite. These cards are similar to the cards used in many digital cameras and for dozens of other uses.

The censorship standards of yesteryear may not apply to all of the one hundred or more channels that may be included in the normal programming package. Even so, the Directtv Hu card enables the parent select to select a programming package with the fewest possible inappropriate channels or programs. The parent can rest assured that a child or guest cannot select a channel that was not pre-approved with the programming package selection. Further screening can be done with the parental block out feature built into the receiver. These two steps will eliminate all programming a parent may consider inappropriate.

This smart DirecTV access card technology also makes it easy to change programming packages. Perhaps a consumer has selected one package and decides to upgrade to another. Another Directtv Hu card is mailed to the home and inserted into the receiver. This system eliminates the need to take the receiver into some service center for reprogramming. It also allows virtually uninterrupted use of the TV, except for the few moments required to change the cards.
