The Clear Appeal of Dish Network HDTV

If you have ever looked at Dish Network HDTV, you know that the image displayed is sharper and wider — it will remind you more of a movie screen than a TV set. All HDTV signals are digital so they are transmitted in the form of data bits which are stored and transmitted in a way that takes static and crackling noise out of the picture entirely. With impeccable detail, wider images and CD-quality surround sound there is no denying the appeal of Dish Network HDTV.

Only Dish Network HDTV can offer such lifelike pictures and digital sound. The higher resolution produces clarity like you have never seen from a picture tube. Films retain their original width, enhancing your home theater experience. Imagine seeing more of a football field, or the panorama of the battle scene in Saving Private Ryan.

The technology is called high-definition television, and Dish Network HDTV combines the broadcasts with Dolby Digital surround sound (AC-3). This combination creates a stunning image with stunning sound and requires new production and transmission equipment at the HDTV stations, as well as new equipment for reception by the consumer. The picture is 720 or 1080 lines of resolution which compares to just 525 lines on your old analog TV.

Many of the new satellite systems such as Dish Network HDTV use a digital encoding scheme that provides a clean, clear picture by converting the digital information to the analog format to display it on your current analog TV. The image looks great compared to a VHS tape, but it would be twice as good if the conversion to analog didn’t have to happen. Within a few years, all TV sets will be converted from analog to digital. The FCC has already issued a mandate requiring all TV stations to be capable of broadcasting HDTV by the year 2006, and you can be sure satellite TV will be there to lead the way.
