Dish Network Satellite TV Service Aids Victims of
Hurricane Katrina
September 2, 2005
In the wake of the devastation caused by hurricane Katrina and the total
collapse of the infrastructure in the region,
Dish Network Satellite TV
Service has begun efforts in aiding victims by raising money and providing
satellite television service to shelters across Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana,
Oklahoma and Texas.
The Dish Network has begun setting up satellite TV service in nine shelters,
including Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, which will receive about 25,000
refugees. The Dishnetwork is in the process of establishing services in dozens
of other Red Cross and Federal Emergency Management Agency shelters.
Hundreds of Dish TV service technicians and vans from all over the United States
are busy re-installing satellite television systems and supporting subscribers
and retailers under difficult circumstances. The DISH Network has found ways to
make local channels available to customers in affected areas so those customers
can continue to receive local news and weather reports.
Michael Neuman, president of EchoStar and DISH Network, said that the company is
focused on helping ensure that DISH Network customers as well as hurricane
refugees get the critical news and information they need during this devastating
period. The
satellite TV service provider hopes to raise a substantial
amount of money for the people affected by hurricane Katrina.
