If you surf the Internet you will find many offers for a Dish Network test card, or access card. These online dealers offer them with the idea of “free satellite TV” to pirate a signal from the satellite companies. The software, they promise, is designed to enable consumers to access all channels on the system and not just be limited to the ones listed in their subscriber package. The problem is that an illegal Dish Network test card may cease to work the day you buy it. A Dish Network test card manufactured and sold by a pirate satellite TV individual is illegal. The two major satellite providers have aggressively begun prosecuting individuals for the production and use of these cards (also called “smart cards”). If you’re not sure what it is, it is the removable credit-card-sized plastic card that’s included with each satellite receiver. A Dish Network test card, installed in your system, is tracked from the time it leaves the factory until you activate it. It identifies each receiver and tells your program provider your Pay-Per-View (PPV) usage each month, and it is included in the free equipment package from legitimate dealers. The worst problem you can experience with an illegal Dish Network test card is that it may not be compatible, or may only work for a short time on your system. It makes more sense and it is less expensive in the long run, to use an approved access card from Dish Network and upgrade your programming package if you want more channels.
