DSL Service Providers Offer Reliable Web Access
When it comes to accessing the web, DSL service providers such
as Verizon and Earthlink offer an excellent alternative to cable broadband
services. DSL is much faster than traditional dial-up, does not tie up your
telephone line, and does not experience the same speed slowdowns that commonly
occur with cable high speed internet access during peak usage times.
What is DSL?
DSL, short for digital subscriber line, gives you high speed internet service
via an existing telephone line, but at speeds up to 50 times faster than
traditional dial-up access. DSL providers take advantage of extra bandwidth on
existing telephone lines so you can talk on the phone and access the web at the
same time.
What are the Benefits?
The benefits of using DSL for your web access include:
- Always-On Connection - No need
to dial up and connect
- Talk & Surf at the Same Time! -
Browse the internet and use the phone line simultaneously
- Higher Upload/Download speeds -
Up to 50 times faster than dial-up services
- Free Modem - DSL providers
generally supply the modem
- Do-It-Yourself Installation - No
need to wait for an appointment or pay for professional installation

Since DSL providers have already done most of the work to
install the infrastructure, all you generally have to do is plug the modem into
an existing telephone jack and you are ready to access the web at blazing
speeds. Most customers will tell you this is a distinct advantage over other
high speed internet service options.
Who Offers DSL Access?
There are a growing number of DSL providers promoting high speed internet, but
two of the most successful are Earthlink and Verizon. They are successful
because they offer great service at reasonable prices, plus excellent
performance and solid technical support. Let’s look at each one in turn.
Earthlink DSL –Earthlink offers a solid high speed
internet service. The monthly fee is based on the download/upload speeds you
select, as well as any additional options you want to choose. Regardless of
which package you select, access provider Earthlink gives you multiple e-mail
addresses (the actual number varies with the package), personal web space, spam
filtering and blocking, and pop-up blocking as well. You can also access your
e-mail from remote locations via web-based e-mail functions.
Verizon VOIP Service "VoiceWing" offers unlimited

Verizon DSL –
Verizon
consistently receives good reviews for the quality of service
provided. The monthly fee varies depending on the download/upload speeds you
want, but they also have some discounted plans for those customers who use
Verizon for both their high speed DSL internet access and landline telephone
service. Landline service is not available in all areas, though, so you will
need to check with Verizon to determine your eligibility for this. Verizon
provides you with multiple e-mail addresses (exact number depends on the package
you purchase), personal web space, spam filtering and blocking, anti-virus
protection, pop-up blocking and parental control.

How do I Know Which Service is Right for Me?
The first step is to determine if Earthlink and/or Verizon are available in your
area. If you have access to both DSL providers, then your best bet is to compare
prices, services, and the other available features to determine which
combination best meets your high speed internet needs and fits your budget.
