Internet Service Providers Want To Be Your Web Host

Need a home for your home page? Internet service providers want to be your everything and they’ve become the place to host your site. In fact, you can probably save money by letting your ISP play host since larger providers have a cost advantage here, thanks to economies of scale. For example, EarthLink now offers hosting, domain registration, up to 175MB of storage space, and 10 mailboxes. All for about $20 bucks a month. You can add an unlimited 56K dial up access for another $22. Internet service providers have learned that their customers prefer one stop shopping.

The web hosting companies are fighting back and now you will find your web host has begun offering dial-up access. Like the big kahunas in the market, these little mom and pop companies are able to offer limited plans for about $10 per month. Thought they are becoming rare, you can still find some FREE internet service providers out there, but don’t expect many extras or much tech support (and free service means a ton of pop up ads on your browser)

The phone companies got into the act a few years ago too. Any company, in fact, with access to the phone lines joined the list of internet service providers. Now you can call your phone company, (Verizon for example), where you have will have a dedicated high speed broadband DSL connection that is uniquely yours and you can also switch your long distance calling plan to run through your computer.

Still, to get the most competitive price, stick to the larger companies if you want a smorgasbord menu of dial-up, high speed DSL or cable access, web hosting, and all the other features. These companies rate high in customer satisfaction and can offer low cost services to users in more cities and remote locations. With a little research you’re bound to find a selection of high speed internet service providers offering a ton of goodies in your area.
