Is the Sattelite Dish Really Free?

Yes, the sattelite dish is free when you order a subscription from one of the major providers. So is the rest of the home equipment (up to four receivers for different rooms), and the first remote control. The professional installation is free. The whole deal is free. Why? Because the satellite TV service providers are so convinced that you’ll love the service and the incredible digital quality picture that once you try it, you’ll be hooked. You get all of the equipment you need to receive satellite television by paying a small activation fee, which is then credited back to your account on your first month’s subscription bill. Did you think a sattelite dish was expensive? How does free sound?

You may have seen some of the old expensive dishes in the neighborhood – the ones that look like they are beaming signals to the orbiting space station but all your neighbors want is just to receive a choice in television programming with a nice clear signal. Now the equipment is smaller (the sattelite dish is about the size of a large pizza plate), and along with the receiving equipment, viewers have the opportunity to pick up foreign stations, live feeds between different broadcast stations, as well as a variety of sports and entertainment channels.

Those large dishes are still in the neighborhood. For some odd reason, these large dish owners still seek out programming on their own, but today, most satellite TV customers get their programming for about $30-$35 per month, through a small sattelite dish provided by one of the two major direct broadcast satellite (DBS) providers, Direct TV or Dishnetwork.

As the major providers of satellite television service in the United States, they select the programs and then broadcast them to subscribers as a set package. You can choose to add the additional packages for just a few more dollars. These providers mirror the type of programming (hundreds of channels) that you can get with cable TV, but at a much lower cost. And with just a small sattelite dish, your reception is completely digital; which means it has much better picture and sound quality.
