XM radio receivers offer great quality electronics for a reasonable price but the best part is, they allow you to receive the broadcasts using the latest in radio technology. With satellite radio you can have digital-quality music, news and entertainment programming when and where you want it. Even if the sound system in your car is not top quality, plug in one of the XM radio receivers and the music will sound dramatically better than the AM or FM radio you’re getting now. XM radio receivers can gather in XM’s broadcast of 130 channels including more than 60 commercial-free music channels; 32 channels of news, talk, sports, entertainment, and comedy; and another 16 channels devoted to local traffic and weather. All for a subscription rate of just $9.99 a month. Since satellite radio doesn’t lease the public airwaves (as traditional radio does) it isn’t subject to the decency scrutiny and hefty fines from the FCC that the shock jocks and DJs on the regular channels are. XM even offers the new Playboy Channel, for an additional fee of $2.99 per month, to listeners who prefer programming that’s a bit racy. If you see a bumper sticker that reads “Club 205” you’ll know what the driver is listening to if he has one of the XM radio receivers installed in his car. Alpine, Pioneer and Delphi offer XM radio receivers, and the standard is the SkyFi which is a plug-and-play compact unit that retails for $129.99 and includes a remote control. It integrates easily into your existing home audio system. If you need a portable XM radio satellite receiver, you can add the Delphi SkyFi audio system, which is a docking cradle for the receiver plus adds a pair of high quality speakers and an antenna. As for a car unit, you may opt for the sleek plug-and-play Delphi Roady 2 unit. The device works with any FM radio (hence, plug and play) and the digital readout on the unit allows you to view the artist and name of the song that is being played.
